Based on the Rush 5 but 30% lighter, the Swift 5 is a top of class Lightweight Sport-Performance-Intermediate wing that has been developed with the same technology used in our performance wings including the Enzo 3 and Zeno in addition to several new innovative features.
Over fifteen years of lightweight R&D have allowed us to deliver a wing that is not only top of class in terms of performance, but one of the lightest wings in its class. Thanks to a lighter sail, the Swift 5’s agility and handling is improved over the Rush 5, with a more precise feel. Another key difference is the ease of inflation and take-off behavior in general.
An extensive period of performance glide testing allowed us to evaluate the Rush and Swift 5 against class-leading wings from other manufacturers. The results have proven significant gains, especially in accelerated glide performance.
Like our performance and competition wings, the Swift 5 excels in active air and challenging conditions. Hundreds of hours test flying in real air and turbulent conditions have gone into the development, ensuring that it satisfies our own demanding requirements along with the True Performance design goals – real, usable performance in turbulent air throughout the speed range.
The R&D team focused on the structural integrity of the wing to ensure an even more solid, compact, and confidence-inspiring feel compared to the Swift 4. Added structural solidity makes the wing more comfortable and improves performance in turbulent conditions. Compared to previous generation wings, the Swift 5 profile retains its shape better in active air, allowing the wing to cut through turbulence with greater efficiency.
The Swift 5 retains a moderate Aspect Ratio for ease of use and higher levels of passive safety. Performance gains have come as a result of optimisations in the line layout and next-gen 3D shaping which splits the leading edge into three distinct sections for a clean, wrinkle-free surface. Enhanced panel shaping and TE mini-ribs have also reduced parasitic drag. A new optimised Shark Nose profile aids in all categories including stability, comfort, performance, and the brake range – making it extremely resistant to accidental spin or stall.
A solid, high-performance wing is not the whole story; fun is the reason we fly. The R&D team concentrated on the handling and spent a lot of time optimising feedback and turn coordination of the original platform (Rush 5), and these advances have been further enhanced by the conversion to lightweight materials. With a direct feel and linear progression in the first part of the range, the result is an efficient climb, flat turns with minimal brake input, and increased efficiency in light lift. The responsiveness in the second part of the brake range allows easier control in strong cores.
Although certified EN B, the Swift 5 is not suitable for beginner pilots. It is meant for experienced intermediate recreational pilots and XC enthusiasts who fly at least 50 hours per year.
The Swift 5 is available with only one type of risers, made from 12mm black Cousin webbing. These are delivered standard with specially designed ‘Link Lite’ connectors to hold the riser lines. These are tested to over 500kg and save approximately 110gr in weight over conventional maillons.
